TOM'S LOVEBIRD FARM HOME OF THE OPALINE LOVEBIRDS SEX LINKED ON THE PEACHFACE LOVEBIRDS For
the peachface lovebirds, the lutino and the australian cinnamons are
sex-linked genetics. What is that mean? It means that the boys carry
the genes and the females do not. Here are the examples.
You
have a slight idea on what the sex-linked genes are and hopefully
this will be a better understanding with further study and breeding
your own peachface lovebirds.
When you breed lutino orangeface with orangeface lutino, you will produce lutino orangeface. The babies can be boy or girl. If you see any other colors, it means that the male and/or female is recessive to other colors.
All cinnamons are all sex-linked regardless of series. For example, this pair is an Australian yellow orangeface cinnamon. Regardless of which is male or female, they will only produce Australian yellow orangeface cinnamon. They babies can be boys or girl. If you see any other colors, it means that the male and/or female is recessive to other colors.
When you breed lutino orangeface male with green orangeface female, all the greens babies are all boys split to lutino orangeface. All the lutino orangeface will be girls. From this pair, you will never get a boy lutino orangeface. All the lutinos will be females. Always. If you see any other colors, it means that the male and/or female is recessive to other colors.
What if the male is green orangeface and the female is a female lutino orangeface? From this pairing, you will only get green orangeface babies. All the babies that turn out to be males will be split to lutino orangeface. All the girls will be a normal girls and do no carry the lutino orangeface genes. If you see any other colors, it means that the male and/or female is recessive to other colors.
What if the green orangeface male is split to lutino orangeface and the female is a lutino orangeface female. From this pair, you will get 50% green orangeface and 50% lutino orangeface. Either one can be males or females. The green males will be split to lutino orangeface. The green females will just be normal. The lutino orangeface can be males or females.
What if we breed the Australian yellow cinnamon boy with a green orangeface girl. You will get Austraian yellow cinnamon female and the green babies are boys split to cinnamon. All cinnamon from this pair will always be female. Any colors you get from this pair is because the boy and/or girl is recessive to other colors.
What if the boy is the green orangeface and the female is the Australian yellow? Well, you will get only green orangeface babies. All the boys will be split to cinnamon and the girl are just normal and not split to Australian yellow cinnamon. Any other colors you produce will be a result that the boy and/or the girl is recessive to other colors. If the boy happens to be split to cinnamon, then you will be able to produce Australian yellow cinnamon and green orangeface. They green orangeface boy will be split to cinnamon and the cinnamon can be boys or girls. However, the green orangeface female is not split to cinnamon. Since the cinnamon is a sex-linked, the girl cannot be a split to cinnamon.
