LOVEBIRD BREEDING AND GENETICS

Lovebirds are one of the most complex birds to understand and breed due to the amazing amount of color variations and mutations possible.

Anyone could throw them into an aviary and have successful matings...but I am speaking of selective breeding to achieve new mutations and colors. There seems to be a lot of confusion about how to achieve certain color variations which are called mutations. Please read the suggested web pages/links before emailing me directly with questions about breeding for certain colors and mutations as you may find I have already answered your questions on a linked page. Of course I am willing to help, but I have found that some questions are very similar for many people. I will be working on a page just for frequently asked questions.

If you would like more help; there is a lovebird forum which has been previously mentioned. Many knowledgeable breeders participate frequently on this forum. Feel free to ask questions! Here is the link"..."
