    BANDING LOVEBIRDS What is the benefit in banding your lovebirds? By banding your lovebirds, you will be able to keep tracks of all the records of which pair they came from. The mutation and the splits the babies may have. The age that you need to band your lovebirds are normally from 10 days to about 2.5 weeks. The older they are, the harder it is. If they are just too big, you might need to used some type of oil on the band and the leg. From this method, you can avoid inbreeding. What is the bad about banding your lovebirds? Well, the lovebirds can be playing with the band and irritate their legs and get swollen. Once it does, there is no much you can do. The lovebirds will keep on playing with the band and the leg will get swollen. After that, the leg will have to be cut off. Another bad things about banding is that the band can get caught in the toys or something else. And, the leg may have to be cut off. There accidents that can happen with banding your lovebirds. You just to have to decide if the risks are worth banding or not. Some people may never run into these accidents. However, if you raise as many birds a I do, you will run into these accidents. It is just a matter of time. For myself, some of my birds are banded and some are not. My band are usually initial "BHE or T&T with CA". Birds I banded are normally sex-linked babies and some of the more expensive babies. Most normal babies will not be banded. For most of these babies will ended up to be pets. If you see silver bands on my birds, it normally means that the birds are not split to anything. If they are banded with any other colors, it usually means the visual opalines are females and he none opaline type are males split to opalines. If you see lutinos that are banded, it means that it's a female. For example : 1. Visual Opaline male with normal peachface female. Offspring : Peachface type babies will be male split to opaline and visual opalines are female. 2. Lutino males with normal peachface females Offspring : Black eyed peachfaces are male split to lutino and visual lutinos are females
